Art event on Thursday 1st March in an empty space in Leeds City Centre. Artists in Leeds are often asked to be creative when thinking about sites to respond to and ways to present their work. In addition there is a tradition of individuals sustaining a creative practice by working collectively or collaboratively. Art in Unusual Spaces would like to celebrate and unpick this by inviting film and publication submissions of new or existing work in response to theme of work, play, collaboration, collectivity, domestic and commercial spaces.

Artists include:
Kristyna Baczynski, Lucy Barker & Ben Ncm, Violaine Bergoin, Joanna Brinton, Stephanie Bryant, Clare Charnley & Patricia Azevedo, Annie Carpenter, Lex Clarke. Toulon’s theme, principles of equality, becomes an exploration of materials and processes of sculpture and the everyday. A programme of visits, screenings, object-making, actions and discussion provides material for individual responses and the collaborative production of objects, actions, video and documentation. Over 4 days, the workshop explores the strategies and processes of various artists, including Mud Office.

From 13 till 17 February, GIDE (Group for International Design Education) had their 9th event with lectures, workshops and an international exhibition. GIDE Dundee 2012 International Workshop focussed on the ‘Design in Action’ ethos inspired by the V&A at Dundee project, and the building designed by Kengo Kuma


GIDE Dundee 2012 invited 170 design students from Milano, Leeds, Magdeburg, Lugano, Mechelen, Ljubljana and Dundee to collaborate in international and interdisciplinary teams to playfully explore, interpret and creatively respond to the Design in Action element of the V&A building.

International Workshop
March 6th – 8th
A three day Flocking Workshop with two Belgium designers from Mechelen; Rudi Respeel and Jeff Rutten. They will be working with students and staff on B.A (Hons) Art & Design (Interdisciplinary) and Interior Design courses. The workshops take place during March 6th – 8th.

The workshop is funded as part of the Erasmus Exchange Mobility Programme. This is part of an ongoing teaching, research and student exchange programme; linked to the GIDE Group for International Design Education programme.
